However, Star2Billing, adds a number of other elements to its product to provide a more rounded, easier to use, VoIP Billing Softswitch. It is fair to say that The Star2Billing Softswitch, when built by us, is greater than the sum of its parts. These elements include high security, intrusion detection and detailed reporting on the capacity and health of the Softswitch.
Any company who is linked with the IP-PBX, wholesale or residential VoIP markets should consider owning their own softswitch. This is particularly the case with IP-PBX termination, as IP Specialists who are looking after their commercial customer’s technical requirements can easily transfer their skills to providing VoIP telephony, and once an IT company provides the IT systems, PBX and call origination and termination, it is likely that the customer will remain loyal indefinitely.
The Star2Billing Softswitch is made up of a variety of components that are blended together to give the best security, usability and reporting metrics. Although A2Billing can simply be installed over the top of an existing asterisk based IP-PBX aggregation, this does not always make for the best results, as an IP-PBX is optimised for Office PBX duties and not designed to handle large call volumes with a low PDD (Post Dial Delay). Furthermore, most IP-PBX aggregations have been designed to be placed safely behind an office firewall. However a Softswitch, with its customer interface, has to be, by definition, placed on the public Internet, and must be designed with security in mind. This is the case with all Star2Billing’s Softswitches.
